Message from the NAYDO Chair

ALWAYS LOOKING AND PLANNING AHEAD

Dear NAYDO Members,

We are planning for and excited about what lies ahead with NAYDO … seeing many of you at General Assembly in July, a new membership year starting September 1, Network events beginning in the fall, monthly webinars with ideas that can be immediately implemented, and the 2024 Conference in Denver held April 3-6.

To be successful at anything, planning is essential. The conference committee is working to stay one step ahead of the deadlines in the planning timetable. The Host Y team and NAYDO Council are meeting next week at the 2024 conference site, the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Conference Center. NAYDO Council will begin a new strategic planning process. There is much work to be done. All planning efforts are with our mission in mind: inspiring and strengthening the philanthropic culture of the Y.

As you plan for the next quarter, year, or decade, consider the NAYDO resources available to you. You’ll find support for all areas of fundraising and philanthropy. Past webinars and conference recordings and connecting with staff and volunteers you’ve met through NAYDO are great places to start. Be sure to take full advantage of your NAYDO membership. If you have questions, please reach out to us. We are here to support you!

In Y service,
Carolyn Grady, NAYDO Chair
SVP, Chief Development Officer, YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh

MONTHLY WEBINAR SERIES

June 15, 1:30-2:30 pm Central
Moving from Event Sponsors to Annual Partnerships
Presenter: Devon Maloney, Vice President of Fund Development and Community Services, Lakeland Hills Family YMCA

An Annual Partnership offers donors at any level a customizable 12-month sponsorship agreement that combines benefits through special events, program initiatives, cross-promotion, and more. These partnerships allow Development Offices to eliminate repetitive asks throughout the year and have one solicitation for the entire calendar year. Annual Partnerships are a vital resource to maximize contributions and move your fundraising from transactional to transformational. Webinar attendees will learn these steps:
• Prospect: Learn how to find your prospective Annual Partners for the upcoming year.
• Discovery: Learn how to evaluate the donor’s motivation to engage and prepare a proposed Annual Partnership Grid.
• Solicitation: How to prepare for the solicitation conversation. What are the benefits of this arrangement for the donor?
• Annual Flow: What does the rest of the year look like? What internal processes are needed?
• How to thank your donors, all year long!

2023 Giving USA: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for 2022
Understanding the Data and Gaining Insights for Your Development Decision-Making
Presenter: Gail Glasser, Senior Consultant, Lighthouse Counsel

Influence your Y's development plans with a robust set of data and insights.  Join Lighthouse Counsel senior consultant, Gail Glasser as she reviews data on the United States charitable sector as reported by Giving USA 2023: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2022.

The session will review the top findings for overall charitable giving. Information will be shared on where the donations came from - individuals, foundations, bequests, and corporations - and where the money went across charitable subsectors. Factors that impacted nonprofits, both challenges and opportunities, will be highlighted.

Participants will gain insights on how to be data-informed in their fundraising decision-making. We will look at our donors' desire to leverage their assets and give in different ways. Use the information to compare your Y's analytics and consider expanding options for donors to give to your local Y. The session will stress best practices for using data to inform how we listen to and communicate with our donors.

Learning outcomes:
1. Understand 2022 Giving USA data compared to historical philanthropic trends
2. Leverage Giving USA data and benchmark your own Y data
3. Garner best practices that can be immediately applied to focus your efforts, educate your stakeholders, and plan for the latest philanthropic trends
