Message from the NAYDO Chair

YEAR-END FUNDRAISING IS UPON US!

Dear NAYDO Members,

At home, we’re planning summer get aways and get togethers. But the end of the year is upon us at work! Even though we are buying locally grown produce at farmer’s markets, cooling off at the pool, and visiting with friends and family, now is the time for planning those holiday campaigns and end of year appeals. Additional planning may be needed so you can avoid sending out communications during the height of the U.S. election season.

NAYDO is in full planning mode. Council members returned from a June conference planning session and Council meeting and are hard at work. Gateway Region YMCA is the Host YMCA for the NAYDO 2025 Conference, and they excelled at the meeting in June. There are many exciting activities, tours, and other ideas planned for St. Louis. Special thanks to Wendy Cornett-Marquitz, CFRE, senior vice president of philanthropy/CDO, and her team at Gateway Region Y for all they did as our meeting hosts.

The NAYDO 2023-2024 membership year ends August 31, so association contacts will be getting their notices to renew. The re-enrollment period opens July 23 and continues through September 1, when the new NAYDO year begins

Be sure to take advantage of the virtual Network events, webinars, and other NAYDO member benefits. And don’t hesitate to reach out to NAYDO staff with your questions or resource needs. Get engaged, and you’ll get much more out of the NAYDO experience.

Enjoy the rest of the summer … fall is just around the corner!

Carolyn Grady, NAYDO Chair
SVP, Chief Development Officer, YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh

2024 Giving USA: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for 2023
Understanding the Data and Gaining Insights for Your Development Decision-Making

Presenter: David Snow, Senior Consultant, Lighthouse Counsel/YMCA Alumni

Influence your Y's development plans with a robust set of data and insights. Join David as he reviews data on the United States charitable sector as reported by Giving USA 2024: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2023.  The recently released 2024 report was researched and written by the Indiana University Lily Family School of Philanthropy.

The session will review the top findings for overall charitable giving. Information will be shared on where the donations came from - individuals, foundations, bequests, and corporations - and where the money went across charitable subsectors. Factors that impacted YMCAs, both challenges and opportunities, will be highlighted.

Participants will gain insights on how to be data-informed in their fundraising decision-making. We will look at our donors' desire to leverage their assets and give in different ways. Use the information to compare your Y's analytics and consider expanding options for donors to give to your local Y. The session will stress best practices for using data to inform how we listen to and communicate with our donors.  The trends and insights are relevant to NAYDO members of all countries!

NAYDO 2025 - WIN A FREE REGISTRATION

NAYDO is on a fixed membership year: every Y’s dues expire August 31, 2024, the last day of the current  membership year. The re-enrollment and renewal period opens Tuesday, July 23, when your YMCA’s Association Membership Contact receives the link to renew. Please reply to this email if you are unsure who your Association Contact is or need to make a change.

Any Y that renews or joins between July 23 and 31 gets a chance on a free 2025 Conference Registration ($775 Value). The winner will be announced in an email to Y Association Contacts on Monday, August 5.

The Conference program is currently being put together by the committee and will be posted on the NAYDO website as components are finalized. The digital brochure will be ready in September. WHAT ARE NAYDO NETWORKS?

They are peer groups loosely based on job duties that offer a space where you can ask questions, share ideas and templates, find solutions, learn, and connect with your peers from across the Y Movement.

Participate in and learn from any of NAYDO's 10 Networks:
- Board Members/Fundraising Volunteers - VIPs, Volunteers in Philanthropy
- Staff New to YMCA Development (in last 3 years)
- Under $4M YMCAs
- Marketing & Communications
- Program & Membership
- Under 40
- Operations (CEOs, COOs, Branch/Centre Directors)
- Grant Writers
- DEI in Philanthropy
- Camp Professionals

You can participate in the events of as many networks as you would like – you’re not limited to just one. Networks are a great opportunity to gain experience in multiple functional areas, find colleagues from a Y similar to yours, and share resources. Each Network holds two virtual learning & networking opportunities throughout the year and opportunities to gather and learn during the annual NAYDO Conference. Virtual events take place from September through August. Details are emailed and posted to the NAYDO website.

Don't miss out on these great learning opportunities! To receive e-blasts about Network events, add the networks you choose to your database record using this link  https://cvent.me/qPXznM

NAYDO is partnering with Capital Campaign Pro to conduct a survey that will provide YMCA-specific data on capital or comprehensive campaigns.
Please complete this survey if your Y is:
• Thinking about a campaign in the future
• Currently in a campaign
or
• Has finished a campaign within the past two years

The survey should be completed by the Development Director/CDO or Executive Director/CEO. Take the survey today.
The October 17 webinar will reveal the results and learnings.

HELPFUL GRANTS INFO

The 2024 State of Grantseeking Report was just released. This report is free and is underwritten in part by our friends at Grant Professionals Association.

Among the highlights:

• Compared to the same period in the prior year, 60% of respondents applied for more grants, 45% were awarded more grants, and 45% reported receiving larger awards.

• Applying for at least three grant awards increased the frequency of winning an award. Thirty-eight percent of organizations that submitted one application won no awards. However, the percentage of organizations that won at least one award was high among organizations that submitted three to five applications (88%), six to ten applications (96%), or eleven or more applications (97-100%).

• For 44% of respondents, recurring grants were 10% or less of total grants and 11% to 50% of total grants for 32% of respondents.

Be sure to check out the Benchmarker for Your Organization. Type in your Y's size and focus, and it will give you a detailed comparison chart of similar-sized organizations.
