BOTTOMS UP!

Message from the NAYDO Chair

Dear NAYDO Members,

I’d like to toast the Ys in the United States that are reemerging and reopening camps and summer programs. In Canada and other places, we remain on hold. We all need a summer with our traditional activities back in action.

However, with the title of this message, I was thinking of NAYDO as a bottom-up organization. With just one full-time and two part-time staff members, NAYDO relies on members and volunteers for new ideas, changes, and solutions to our challenges.

One example is we expanded NAYDO's research of relevant topics for NAYDO 2022 by inviting the entire Conference Committee to share ideas from their Ys. A few weeks ago, we held a brainstorming session to come up with suggested topics for NAYDO 2022 Conference workshops and Hot Topics. It was a productive call and generated many excellent topics.

Other ways to be involved in NAYDO include serving on the Conference Committee, volunteering on-site at the 2022 Conference in Tampa, engaging in Network discussions, and becoming a member of ART, the Alumni and Retiree Team. NAYDO Council members serve in countless roles, guide our strategic plan, and bring many new suggestions to our attention.

It’s going to be a busy Y summer: be sure to set aside time for NAYDO and for your professional development. There are excellent monthly webinars scheduled - check them out below. The Redwoods Group will continue the Anti-Racism YMCA conversation. And, we’ll see what else bubbles up from NAYDO members and volunteers.

Cheers!
Zane Korytko

YMCA Mexico Announces New Interim Leader

NAYDO Chair Zane Korytko received a letter from Alejandro Hernández Escalante, Board Chair of Mexico City YMCA Group, announcing Ernesto Gaona’s retirement from the Y. The board appointed Juan Baqué González as interim General Secretary of the Mexican Federation of YMCAs. Since 2006, Juan has been the Rector of the YMCA University; has been active in LACA, the YMCAs in Latin America and the Caribbean; and in NAYDO. We hope Juan will be able to join NAYDO at the 2022 Conference.

NAYDO Annual Membership Re-Enrollment

If you are receiving this email, you are in the NAYDO Association Membership/Virtual Training Subscription Database for the September 1, 2020 - August 31, 2021 NAYDO year. Later this summer, you will need to accept an email invitation and update your information to continue to receive NAYDO communications for the upcoming NAYDO year that goes through August 31, 2022. This does not obligate your YMCA to re-enroll but merely grants NAYDO permission to communicate with you and ensures your benefits stay activated until such time as your Y informs us it is not renewing which of course we hope is not the case. Watch for more information during the summer, or contact the NAYDO Office by email or call 504 464 7845.

NAYDO 2022 Sponsors and Exhibitors

The Sponsor and Exhibitor team, under the leadership of Suzanne Green, The Y of Central Maryland, is busy getting ready for Tampa. If you have a vendor or suggestion of a company that should be an exhibitor, please contact Suzanne. See the full list to date of sponsors and exhibitors.

NAYDO members save 20% off CFRE certification

One perk of your NAYDO membership is that you always enjoy 20% off the cost of the Certification Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification. As a CFRE, you demonstrate to colleagues, donors, your board, and others that you are a knowledgeable fundraising professional working to the highest ethical standards. CFREs say the certification has provided valuable benefits:

  • 83% say it positively impacted earning potential
  • 90% say it provided enhanced professional opportunities
  • 92% say it increased on-the-job confidence

July 15, 2021, is the next CFRE application deadline. Learn more about initial certification.

Major Gifts

The monthly May webinar featured Doug Dillon, Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners CEO, and Senior Consultant Christian Rieseberg discussing Major Gifts - your pathway to a successful and meaningful annual campaign. A few takeaways: Consider them probable donors, not prospects; a major gift is one the donor has to stop and think about; stewardship will set you apart from other organizations; 90% of fundraising work precedes the ask. Recording is on the members-only section of the website. Daxko is the sponsor of the monthly webinar series.
